Malaysian Indian film fest

The first-ever Malaysian Indian Film Festival was inaugurated by actor Radha Ravi, who is also the general secretary of the South Indian Artistes Association, in Chennai on January 9, 2012.

As part of the festival, which seeks to help film-makers from Malaysia gain better recognition in Tamil Nadu and the film industry here, 10 Malaysian Indian films, produced in Malaysia and released between 2001 and 2011, will be screened at the Sridevi Preview Theatre.

Actor Radha Ravi said, “This film festival is not just to encourage film-makers from Malaysia, but also to strengthen the friendly relations between the two countries. There should be an exchange of not just cinema but also culture, which will enrich our cinema.”

“When you make a film or if you’re acting in a film, try to experiment and make something new. There is no originality in most films. When there are film festivals, it will be difficult for the jury to choose the best," he added.

Films that will be screened during the festival include ‘Aandal’, ‘Manjari’, ‘Appalam’ and ‘Panja Muni’.

Awards for best actor, director, film and director of photography will be given.

The award presentation will be held at GRT Grand Convention Hall in the evening. The jury will include director Manobala, actor Charlie and actress Fatima Babu.
