Sri Muralidhara Swamigal, the founder of Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam, Walajapet, had a moving experience in life that inspired him to start the peedam.
His mother Komalavalli was diagnosed with acute lung cancer at age 62 and when all signs of hope vanished, she had asked swamigal to grant her a dying wish and her parting words were, “Not even my enemy should undergo pain and suffering to this extent. I want you to do something for the people of the world. Something that will make them bear the burden of their illness and pain.”
Swamigal fulfilled the promise given to his mother in 2003 by consecrating the God of Medicine, a 6½-foot Danvantri Bhagwan, atop 54-crore mantras which he acquired from devotees.
From day one, homams have been performed daily at the peedam that prays for nothing but people’s well-being. Similarly, aarathi is performed to the lord twice a day – at 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. – only for global welfare.
Continuing the tradition and as a special dedication to his mother, Danvantri homam and Sudarshana homam were performed by Sivachariars on World Cancer Day (Saturday, February 4, 2012) for a disease- and disorder-free life, which was witnessed by thousands of people at the peedam.
Sri Danvantri Arogya Peedam is situated at: Ananthalai Mathura, Kilpudupet, Walajapet, Vellore District – 632513.
