Kasi of South India

Srikalahasti is a holy town in Chitoor district of AndraPradesh .Srikalahasti is named after the staunch devotees of Lord Shiva They were spider (Sri) the Serpent (Kala) and Elephant (Hasti) Lord shiva gave them a boon that their names be merged with the vayu linga and called as Srikalahasteeswara.

This temple is situated 36 km away from tirupati. And the temple is famous for its vayu linga. The temple is also regarded as rahu- kethu kshetra and dakshina kasi temple Kalahasti is considered “kasi of the South”. This is the only temple remains open during solar and lunar eclipses.

This temple is famous for Rahu-kethu Pooja Its s a belief that performing rahu- kethu Pooja will ward the people from the astrological effects of   Rahu- kethu. This is considered as one the most famous shiva temple in South India, and is said to be the site where kannapa was ready to give both his eyes to cover blood flowing from Siva  Linga before that the lord shiva stopped him and granted him mukthi.

Maha Sivaaraathiri which occurs in the Tamil month of Maasi (Feb 15 – Mar 15) is one of the greatest festival season of here A one day trip to Kalahasti from chennai is also possible as this temple is well connected by road with tirupati and with Chennai and its only four hour travel from Chennai.

This pleasant holy temple with its ancient architecture designs of the sculpture makes the place worth visiting
