Vazhakkai thuvaran

Ingredients

Raw plantain – 2
Tamarind - A small ball
Grated coconut - 1 small cup
Pepper - ½ spoon
Jeera – 1/2 spoon
Red chillies – 3
Mustard - ½ spoon
Oil - 4 spoons
Salt to taste

Method

Peel the raw plantain and cut it into big pieces. Soak tamarind in water for half-an-hour. Make a puree and add salt to it. When it boils, add cut plantains and allow it to get cooked. Drain it.

Grind grated coconut, pepper, red chillies and jeera coarsely and keep it aside.

In a pan, pour oil and heat it and splutter mustard. Put the cooked plantains and the coarse mixture and stir for some time. Garnish it with curry leaves.

Vazhakai thuvaran is tasty and different from the usual vazhakai kottu.
