The first phase of the Intensive Pulse Polio Immunisation programme was today held in the union territory to cover an estimated 92,000 children below five years. The programme, formally inaugurated by Chief Minister N Rangasamy, was carried out through 411 booths manned by 1,500 volunteers, an official said. Mobile teams of health personnel were deployed at the entry points between Tamilnadu and Puducherry to cover children travelling in buses and other private vehicles. The second phase of the immunization would be held on April 15.
